Practical Strategic Alignment

We face a counter-intuitive truth: We can’t control our way to strategic alignment. Instead, we need to develop organically a shared clarity of purpose and direction most if not all will commit to. I can help you achieve this in a systematic way

Results

For my entire career, I have had a reputation for making sure everyone in the team feels involved.

I didn’t really reflect on this until my 30s, but in fact I learned to do this in my teenage years, through certain influences at that time, ones which I am grateful for to this day.

Later, when this trait was commented upon, my response was doesn’t everyone do that?

Well, as you’ll be well aware, no, everyone does not do that. For me, it had long since become an unconscious competence and an important value.

That background underpins my belief in the power of an aligned organisation where everyone has a genuine chance to find a way to be committed to the shared endeavour.

I have developed an approach to systematically achieve this outcome, which I would be pleased to share with your organisation.

Testimonials

“Listens. Very quickly gets the main thread – the nub of the problem. Never confrontational, at all. Points people in the right direction without getting their backs up (and there are some difficult characters). Very much helped keep things together. Things were destined to be difficult, but they weren’t difficult.”
Gail Wilson, Hotel and Catering Manager, Babcock Marine Ltd

“Most useful hour and a half I’ve had in 30 years”

Dave Pearson, Group Sustainable Development Director, Star Refrigeration Ltd

“Having worked with David as part of the CeeD West Leadership group/programme, I have been hugely impressed by not only his insight but also his ability to encourage some very difficult conversations in an open and honest way, that allowed the whole room to not only share but also feel like we had taken a lot from it.”

Douglas Aitken, Managing Director, Lochlie Construction

“David provides the means to inject fairness and respect into the workplace and create environments where leaders help people to relate to each other, customers, and their work, to progressively increase their competence and capability, and also to enjoy the level of autonomy needed to produce fulfilment and great results.”

Jim Mather, Chairman, Gael Ltd

“Dr David speaks with complete authority on the subject of the mastery of leadership in handling change and growth, helping leaders to truly lead using well-researched approaches that work, challenging preconceptions and giving much needed clarity.”

What does practical strategic alignment look like?

Practical strategic alignment means people in the organisation are acting in ways that are mutually reinforcing in pursuit of a settled purpose and strategy and doing this of their own volition, as opposed to having to be instructed every step of the way.

p the emotional commitment to achieve a desired outcome. Sometimes, that passion can appear in unexpected places and being open to the possibility is very important. Leaders may not necessarily be found among the managers. Put very simply, if they care enough, they can probably be a leader.
